Political leaders have been giving political speeches since politics were around. A political speech can help a political leader get their point across and deliver their stance on certain political issues. There have been many political leaders that have given a great political speech.
All political leaders must give a political speech sometime during their careers. A political speech takes hard work. Political leaders must prepare for their political speech. Not all speeches may be long, but they must be powerful. The Gettysburg Address, given by Abraham Lincoln, took less than five minutes and was totally unconventional, but it worked. All political speeches must be well thought out and relate to the crowd. Political leaders must know their audience, speaking format and time constraints before delivering a political speech. If the public is expecting a political leader to deliver an hour length speech and it only takes twenty minutes, then the speaker will look ridiculous. Also, a political speech must be perfected by the political leader. Political leaders must know the topic in and out. Research is very important when delivering a political speech. Practicing is also necessary when giving a political speech. No matter how many times a political figure has given a political speech, they still must practice. There have been a few political leaders that have given truly remarkable political speeches. The top ten political speeches are said to be, starting with the tenth, Lyndon B. Johnson’s “We Shall Overcome”, John F. Kennedy’s Houston Ministerial Association Speech, Ronald Reagan’s Shuttle “Challenger” Disaster Address, Malcom X’s “The Ballot or the Bullet”, Richard Nixon’s “Checkers”, Barbara Jordan’s 1976 DNC Keynote Address, Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Pearl Harbor Address to the Nation, FDR’s First Inaugural Address, John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural Address and of course, Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Political leaders like John McCain and Barack Obama have learned a lot from past political speeches, which helped both of them in the 2008 Presidential Election. Barack Obama was said to have given one of the best political speeches with his “Our Moment is Now” political speech. There is really an art to giving a political speech. Hundreds of years ago, before there was television or microphones, a political leader had to give their political speech on his own. There were a lot of political leaders who gave speeches that lasted more than a couple of hours. And the crowds were pleased to be there. That’s because those political leaders had a good grasp on the speeches they were delivering. There are a few factors that come into play when people are considering a good speech. The moment, the backdrop and the words are all part of a great political speech. If the speech is given during a time in history where the words will resonate, the speech has more meaning. The place where the speech is delivered plays a big role and the words. A great political speech must be great whether its delivered orally or read.
